As my first short film project (as writer/producer/director) I just have a new respect for the behind the scenes crew.  As an actor, although I saw much of the setup and process in between takes while on set, developing and breaking down the script, creating a shot list and storyboards, collaborating with editors, writers, cinematographers, and other crew rewriting the script and creating a shooting script wore me out.  Not gonna lie. You really need a full crew to handle all the ins and out of a production from catering, scheduling and contracts, setting up and breaking down sets, managing production workflow.

As an actor, (back in the day) I saw much of the setup and movement between takes on the sets that I worked on.

But didn’t know about breaking down the script, creating a shot list and storyboards, collaborating with editors, writers, cinematographers, and other crew. Didn’t think about all the rewrites that go into a production script or updating the shooting script.

Handling multiple duties while directing, rewriting, and running a set…uh…ran a sistah RAGGED! Not gonna lie. You really need a full crew to handle all the ins and out of a production from catering, scheduling and contracts, setting up and breaking down sets, managing production workflow.

You really need at least a 5 person crew (writer/director/person, dp/camera operator, PM, SS, Gaffer, Boom) to run a half decent production, but my 3-person team hooked it up.  LOL.

Overall, I learned what to do and what not to do the next time around and more importantly what and when to do certain things in certain phases of production.
